On Boarding

SECTION PURPOSE  to assist a department in transitioning a new employee in a timely manner by providing the necessary information and resources available

  1. Before Arrival
    • New employee should attend New Employee Orientation, held at the Department of Human Resources in Depot Campus, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Dates of Orientation can be found here
    • Retirement choices must be made the first day of the employee’s arrival at orientation...please send them this link to help with making an informed choice
    • Resources for new employees can be found here...Please be sure to email this link to the new employee prior to their first day.  This link includes a valuable “New Employee Action List,” under the “Prior to Your First Day” section
    • Send new employee information on your department, for example, a newsletter, annual report, etc
    • Send employee links to local community information if desired
    • Email SAIT and give permission for the new employee to be set up for email, computer access, etc. sait@uconn.edu
  2. Upon Arrival
    • Introduce the new employee to supervisors and colleagues
    • Your department may announce your new employee in the Division’s biweekly newsletter by submitting the information here 
    • If necessary, employee can set up voicemail
    • Bring employee to One Card to obtain ID card...employee will need to bring their offer letter
    • Present employee with any necessary keys
    • Contact SAIT to walk the employee through the necessary steps for email, computer access, etc.
    • Provide employee with a handy list of information, including names of colleagues and information such as “dial 8 for an outside line; dial 6 for an inside extension”
  3. The First Two Weeks
    • Name tags can be ordered through Dan’s Awards in Willimantic, CT
    • Business cards can be ordered through Alpha Graphics via Husky Buy
    • The supervisor of the employee should review the evaluation process as it pertains to the employee’s union. UCPEA expects an “Activity and Achievement” section to be completed yearly
    • Providing the new employee a list of acronyms that are used by the department and Division of Student Affairs is helpful
    • Inform employee of professional development opportunities within the department and university.
    • Inform employee of required training – Diversity Awareness Training and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
