Request to Hire

SECTION PURPOSE to ensure that the hiring managers follow the proper procedures during the hiring of employees.

  • Once a successful candidate has been identified, the dispositions should be entered into RSS as well as a draft offer letter (sample offer letter information can be found here) and submit the ‘request to hire.’
  • The successful candidate may only be contacted after OIE and HR have approved the hire request in RSS. Check to see if there have been any changes to the draft offer letter.
  • Once the candidate has accepted the offer, please send them the criminal background check packet found here. The candidate will then fax the signed forms to Human Resources at 860-486-8328
  • The start dates for new employees should be on the first day of a new pay period when there is an orientation session.
  • When the candidate has signed the offer letter:
    • Close search in RSS by indicating changing the offer status from "extend" to “accept” (done by clicking on the "offer" link of the successful candidate)
    • Send a copy of the signed offer letter to Stacey Murdock, stacey.murdock@uconn.edu, HR liaison in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and offerletters@uconn.edu
    • Be sure the candidate’s background check has been completed before the first day of work
  • Enter the candidate into CORE CT, making sure to reference the search number in the comments.
